Our Mission and Philosophy

The EMDR Center of Canada is dedicated to preserving EMDR Therapy as it was originally taught by Francine Shapiro. Andrew Leeds, Ph.D., one of the first clinicians to be trained by Dr. Shapiro in the early 1990s, is one of the few trainers who has preserved, and continues to teach, EMDR Therapy as it was originally developed . Coupling this with the advances that have been made in EMDR Therapy over the last 25 years, Dr. Leeds has developed a rigorous, comprehensive and robust training curriculum in EMDR Therapy curriculum that is considered to be one of the best in North America.

The EMDR Center of Canada utilizes the same training curriculum as the Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute, founded by Andrew Leeds, Ph.D., and is pleased to bring this robust training program – the first of its kind – to Canada.

The EMDR Center of Canada provides evidence-based, post-graduate education and training in the diagnosis and treatment of survivors of trauma and neglect through public workshops and home study programs.

The EMDR Center of Canada is committed to fostering understanding, compassion and competence in the clinical assessment and treatment of neglect, abuse, and trauma. We promote the use of findings and principles from positive psychology in prevention and treatment programs. We strive to maintain the highest standards of scholarship for historical depth and recent findings. Our program presents context on issues where there is current consensus, as well as where there is scholarly disagreement.

All individuals regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture or religion are welcome to attend the training. Issues of cultural diversity will be addressed as appropriate during the training.
