Alana Sham
Alana graduated with a Masters of Counselling Psychology program from Yorkville University in 2019 and a Bachelors of Science from University of Toronto in 2014. Currently, Alana is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, as well as a Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Alana has a history working with children, individuals, couples and families. Having lived experience, Alana has taken a great interest in working with young adults experiencing anxiety, living with trauma, communication issues, and experiencing difficulties with life transitions. Alana works from an attachment-based and trauma-informed lens. She applies therapy approaches such as solution-focused therapy (SFT), emotion focused therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), and play therapy techniques to best work with her clients.
With such uncomfortable problems that people experience, Alana aims to ensure clients feel comfortable, welcomed and heard. Using a person-centred approach, Alana strives to meet clients where they’re at, to normalize the idea that the problems clients experience is valid, and that there is hope for things to improve.
When not wearing the psychotherapist hat, Alana loves spending time with her two dogs, Apollo and Artemis, taking them out for walks and playing fetch with them. In addition, Alana enjoys socializing with loved ones and doing arts and crafts.
