Comprehensive Refresher on EMDR Therapy

Refresh your skills on EMDR with a strong focus on case conceptualization.

If you wish you were trained with us initially, now is your chance.

Approved for 12 EMDRIA Credits

Program Overview

This refresher course places a strong emphasis on case conceptualization, the heart of EMDR therapy, and teaches how to perform a case conceptualization based on the principles of the AIP model. Participants will learn the basic principles of Attachment Theory, the Theory of Structural Dissociation, the neurobiological implications of trauma, how to assess readiness and stability of clients, and how to perform a comprehensive history for target sequencing.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and discuss key principles of the AIP model and the elements of Shapiro’s (2018) and Leeds’s (2016) models of maladaptive memory networks.
  • Evaluate clients’ readiness for EMDR reprocessing according to standardized criteria and determine if additional preparation is required.
  • Apply standardized assessment tools and structured interviews to screen all prospective clients for dissociative disorders before utilizing bilateral stimulation procedures.
  • Utilize a framework for case conceptualization and effectively plan a sequence of targets for EMDR reprocessing.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Assessment Phase (3) and the Reprocessing Phases (4, 5, and 6) of the standard EMDR procedural steps, along with their purpose and proper execution.
  • Describe the 3 Prong Protocol, its procedural steps for standardized scripts within each prong, and the appropriate contexts for implementing each protocol.
  • Recognize when to employ interweave strategies related to Responsibility, Safety, and Choice themes, and when to refrain from interfering with the process.

By achieving these learning objectives, participants will enhance their understanding and expertise in EMDR therapy, equipping them to better serve their clients and promote successful therapeutic outcomes.
