Learning Objectives:
- Identify signs of fragmentation observed in clients during EMDR processing
- Articulate the relationship between “parts” and brain function
- Describe 3 differences between the standard protocol and the fragmented selves
protocol
- Identify key signs of successful processing with the parts protocol
Program Overview
Trauma-related fragmentation presents challenges for the EMDR therapist when the client’s dissociative responses complicate or disrupt trauma processing. Traumatized clients present with one body and one mind but may also have many parts holding different trauma responses to the same event or to the traumatic environment. The processing with fragmented clients often may appear to be going smoothly but, despite apparent success in sessions, it doesn’t always result in resolution and completion for the client. Or the client may seem to be doing well and then suddenly becomes flooded and de-stabilized during processing or in the following hours and days.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to an EMDR protocol designed for
working with fragmented or dissociative disorder clients that not only enables effective processing of the trauma but also facilitates increased self-compassion.
