1) Will I be a Certified EMDR Therapist after the training?
No, completion of the basic training does not make you a Certified EMDR Therapist. After completing the training, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. However, to become a Certified EMDR Therapist, the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) requires additional steps. Trainees must first complete the Basic EMDR Training, followed by a minimum of 20 hours of consultation with an approved EMDR consultant to demonstrate mastery of the Standard EMDR Protocol. Certification also requires the completion of an advanced EMDR workshop (minimum of 12 CEUs) and other requirements as outlined by EMDRIA. For further details, please refer to the EMDRIA website.
2) Does this training have Part 1 and Part 2?
Historically, EMDR training was divided into two parts, often spread over a period of months. Our training format differs slightly; it is now delivered as a comprehensive program over the course of four months, with four separate training sessions rather than two. This extended format is designed to enhance retention of the material, offering participants more time to absorb and apply the concepts.
3) I am a supervisor and do not have a caseload of clients. Can I still take the training?
Unfortunately, no. To ensure the effectiveness of the training and promote the application of the EMDR approach, all participants are required to engage in clinical practice with third-party clients as part of their training. This hands-on experience is crucial for gaining the necessary skills and competency in EMDR therapy. Supervisors, researchers, or other professionals without an active client caseload are not eligible for this training. Practicing the techniques with real clients is essential to fully mastering the EMDR methodology.
4. I am a registered social worker. Am I eligible for the training through the EMDR Center of Canada?
At this time, the EMDR Center of Canada is specifically offering training to clinicians with a minimum of a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate individuals with a Master’s in Social Work for this particular training program. We recommend visiting the EMDRIA website at https://www.emdria.org/find-an-emdr-training/, where you can find other organizations that may offer Basic EMDR Trainings suitable for professionals with your credentials.
5. Am I required to attend all training days?
Yes, in accordance with the guidelines set by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), all participants are required to attend the full training program in its entirety. EMDRIA’s standards for Basic EMDR Training emphasize the importance of comprehensive participation to ensure that trainees acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement the EMDR protocol. Partial attendance or absences may not meet EMDRIA’s training requirements for certification.
